Martin Luther, when he nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Church at Wittenberg, Germany, on 31st October 1517, he unwittingly started off a chain of pivotal events, which ushered in the reformation, and gave birth to Protestants. It was the culmination of a series of events that were taking place since 1300 AD…a good two hundred years of transformational thoughts and ideas. HalleluYah!
What Luther did was not the end, neither the beginning of transformational thoughts and ideas. This single event brought about a clear separation of the old and the new, and gave birth to enlightened way of thinking, believing and living, not only in relation to God, but also, to all that life holds for us, as humans. It was the pivotal point, where things forever changed…permanently. HalleluYah!
The Protestant Reformation which was ushered in, was built on five foundational ideas and doctrines. They are famously known as the “FIVE SOLAS,” which declare, in contradiction of the existing religious thoughts, that fallen human beings are saved by GRACE ALONE – Sola Gratia, through FAITH ALONE – Sola Fide, in CHRIST ALONE – Solus Christus, as revealed in SCRIPTURE ALONE – Sola Scriptura, to the GLORY of GOD ALONE – Soli Deo Gloria. HalleluYah!
Let us always be thankful to God for all those precious ones, who courageously stood again error, and gladly laid down their lives for the cause of God, His eternal plan of salvation and for the enlightenment and empowerment of His people.
"Unless I am convicted by Scripture and plain reason (I do not accept the authority of popes and councils because they have contradicted each other), my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. So help me God."
