The LORD Jesus Christ, during His earthly ministry, spoke many things, to many people. Just before the LORD ascended to heaven, He spoke to the disciples – we call it “The Great Commission.”
What the LORD spoke to the disciples is important to us also. The Great Commission applies not only to the disciples then, but also to everyone who is a disciple of the LORD Jesus Christ.
We find the words of “The Great Commission” in Matthew 28:18-20 – “18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
It tells us – all authority in heaven and on earth is given to the LORD Jesus Christ. He is now the Provider, the Sustainer and the Judge. Everyone has to take His words seriously, and obey them sincerely. We have to accept this.
Secondly, we are to preach the gospel to all people at all times. The gospel is the good news that the remission of our sins is available, in and through the LORD Jesus Christ. We have to believe this.
Thirdly, we are to make disciples of all those who come to believe in the LORD Jesus Christ. In other words, to teach them want the LORD had spoken, and help them obey it. We have to trust and obey the LORD.
May the LORD help us be His disciples, who are willing to trust and obey the LORD in all matters of our faith and the life to which we are called. So God help us.
"Christian discipleship is a decision to walk in his ways, steadily and firmly, and then finding that the way integrates all our interests, passions, and gifts, our human needs and eternal aspirations. It is the way of life we were created for."
