How we make people feel, when interact with them, makes a whole lot of difference to the relationship. Many times, we can build or break a relationship, merely by how we make the other person feel. It has such power.
The LORD God Almighty, the Creator of all, has this to say to us, His children regarding how to treat people in Zechariah 7:9-10 – “9 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.’” This is close to the heart of God.
The following story has a great lesson for us, from a mother who teaches his son, the significance of how we treat others, especially those who are in need, and come to us for help. “I heard my mother asking our neighbour for some salt. I asked her, why was she asking them for salt, when we had enough salt at home. She replied: ‘It is because they are always asking us for things; they are poor. So I thought, I would ask something small from them, so as not to burden them, but at the same time, make them feel, as if we need them too.'”
Let us learn to respect the people regardless of their economic and social standing. Let us learn to treat them with dignity, that is due to anyone who is “created in the image of God.” Let us learn to be “the Children of the Most High God.”
