The Word of God, the Bible is compared to many things. King David brings out beautifully the beauty of the law of the LORD in Psalm 19:7-11.
“7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.” – Psalm 19:7-11
David describes the Word of God as PERFECT, SURE, RIGHT, PURE, CLEAN, TRUE, and then sums up the significance of the Bible as he personally sees it, in verses 10 – “10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
The Bible is not just FINE GOLD and SWEETER than HONEY,* but the Word of God helps us, and WARNS us of dangers, and most certainly REWARDS those who keep it!!! – 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.” What more can we ask for?
Therefore, let us desire the Word of God like how David desires, and obey it with all our heart. For in doing so is our good, and our safety.
"The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian."
