The times when Kings and Queens ruled are gone. Such form of governance belongs to a bygone era. Just like the people who govern in the present world, monarchs were also good and bad.
Many of the monarchs professed allegiance to Christ, but not all of them were Christians. There are some, who are, but do not speak about their faith openly. There are some, who sought for opportunities to talk about their faith in the LORD Jesus Christ, at an opportune time, place and occasion, though just a handful. One such person is Queen Elizabeth II.
Here, in her own words, let us see, what Jesus Christ of Nazareth meant to her, as an individual, and the Queen of Great Britain.
“For me, the life of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose birth we celebrate today, is an inspiration and an anchor in my life. A role-model of reconciliation and forgiveness, he stretched out his hands in love, acceptance and healing. Christ’s example has taught me to seek to respect and value all people of whatever faith or none.” – Christmas Day address to the nation in December 2014
“Although we are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves – from our recklessness or our greed. God sent into the world a unique person – neither a philosopher nor a general (important though they are) – but a Saviour, with the power to forgive.” – Christmas Message 2011
It is not just her own words, but many of whom, who have worked closely with her, have acknowledged her deep and abiding faith in the LORD Jesus Christ, including the current Archbishop of Canterbury, Rev. Justin Portal Welby – “As a faithful Christian disciple, and also Supreme Governor of the Church of England, she lived out her faith every day of her life. Her trust in God and profound love for God was foundational in how she led her life – hour by hour, day by day.”
Standing up for God, and upholding the biblical standards in a world fast becoming anti-Christian, is not an easy thing, even for a Queen. She sought for an opportunity, to place her thoughts and views ever so carefully, yet, unambiguously. May we be found faithful to stand for our LORD and Redeemer.
"I know just how much I rely on my own faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning, I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God. Like others of you who draw inspiration from your own faith, I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian gospel."
