The LORD speaks to His twelve disciples, and gives them the “Rules of Engagement” or “Terms of Reference” as He sends them on an important task – “6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts,” – Matthew 10:6-9
Jesus Christ urges the twelve disciples to freely preach about the kingdom of God, that has come -the gospel of good news – with the power that He has given them, to heal the people of physical illnesses and evil possessions, while making no provisions for their personal needs of food and bed.
Herein is the blueprint for the “PROCLAIMER of the GOSPEL.” The same is repeated in Mark 16:14-18 as part of The Great Commission that the LORD gives to the disciples, present during His ascension.
The emphasis of the LORD is that, we His disciples, would proclaim or announce freely, the good news about the kingdom of God that has come, by focussing more on the preaching the gospel, than on providing for our personal needs. The LORD will take care of all our legitimate needs, while we pour our hearts and minds into proclaiming the gospel – the work entrusted to our care, by the LORD.
Let us therefore “freely give, even as we received it freely.”
"The Christian Gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus was glad to die for me. This leads to deep humility and deep confidence at the same time. It undermines both swaggering and snivelling. I cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more of myself or less of myself. Instead, I think of myself less."
