The LORD Jesus, continuing His teaching on prayers, gives the disciples a MODEL PRAYER, if we may call it that way, in Matthew 6:9-13 – “9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
This prayer has…
1- PRAISE and WORSHIP – “9…Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
2- PRAYER – “10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
3- PETITION – “11 Give us this day our daily bread.”
4- PENITENCE – “12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
5- REQUEST – “13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:”
6- WORSHIP and PROCLAMATION – “13…For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
This prayer, that the LORD taught us, gives us a great and deep insight into who God is, His Glory, His Majesty and His Power. Let us meditate on this model prayer, and worship the LORD, who alone deserves all glory, honour and praise.
"The attention at the beginning of these petitions is on the exaltation of God and His concerns. In the initial phrases of the Lord's Prayer, Jesus fixes our gaze not on ourselves but on God."
