The Bible records in Matthew 1:19, that Joseph was “a just man.” Isn’t that an honour to be called so? It is! It speaks about the person, and who he is. The Dictionary defines the word “just” as being “fair” and is morally and ethically sound.
The Word of God not only says Joseph was a just man, but goes on to qualify the same, and gives us reason for such an honour…
“19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.” – Matthew 1:19.
A young lady, whom Joseph was to marry, is pregnant with a child, a no one knows who the father is. There may have been a talk going around about the announcement of the angel, and the miracle of pregnancy. Joseph could have chosen the legal way of separation. But he chose to divorce Mary privately, so that she doesn’t have to go through hell.
May the LORD help us to be just, in all our ways, like this fine gentleman called Joseph. God is the epitome of justice and fairness. Therefore, as His disciples, it is but expected, the same, from us.
"Fairness is what justice really is."
