Anger, said the wise men of old, serves not much of a good, and it burns the person, and also everything around. If we don’t burn our anger, it will burn us down. What a tragedy it is! In deed it is. Anger is defined this way – “ire, rage, fury, indignation, wrath” which in other words is “an intense emotional state.”
The Bible, discourages anger, and encourages us to be patient and calm, under testing circumstances in life…
Proverbs 16:32 – “32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”
Proverbs 14:29 – “29 He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly.”
Proverbs 19:11 – “11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook a transgression.”
It requires, a total change in our mind and our attitude, towards testing, troubling and trying circumstances in our life. The Word of God uses these words to help us – “Slow to Anger,” “Rule your Spirit,” “Great Understanding,” “Discretion,” “Overlook” – these words helps us see what attitude and mindset one needs to have, for a calm and patient approach to life, and all it throws at us.
"To be angry about trifles is mean and childish; to rage and be furious is brutish; and to maintain perpetual wrath is akin to the practice and temper of devils; but to prevent and suppress rising resentment is wise and glorious, is manly and divine."
