The way “Christian Walk” is promoted and practiced these days is shallow, and without substance. Elisabeth Elliot sums it up well for us – “It is Christ who is to be exalted, not our feelings. We will know Him by obedience, not by emotions. Our love will be shown by obedience, not by how good we feel about God at a given moment. “And love means following the commands of God.” “Do you love Me?” Jesus asked Peter. “Feed My lambs.” He was not asking, “How do you feel about Me?” for love is not a feeling. He was asking for action.”
Paul writing to the believers at Corinth, very clearly says – “7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7.
Our walk is expected to be based upon faith in the facts of the Bible, and not on feelings and emotions. The relationship between Christ and the Christian is, so many times in the Scriptures, compared to that of the Shepherd and the sheep. Sheep have to trust [implicit faith] in the ability of the Shepherd, and only then can they be safe and secure. They cannot insist on saying, show us your credentials; your ability to lead us, and then we will trust and follow you. That is not how it works.
Therefore, let us not base and build our faith on feelings, but rather on facts, as found in the Word of God. Feelings are fleeting, and they change all too often. May the LORD help us.
"1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen...6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
