Peter, writing to the early Christians in 1 Peter 4:7-11, encourages them to pray, love and care for each other, through hospitality, and sharing. These are the character traits that a Christian should seriously and passionately pursue. The Word of God is pretty clear about it.
“7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
The emphasis of the LORD, for a Christian, is that, we should always be like our Saviour – love like He did; be mindful of others, their needs; and to do our best, to help them. The point is, for us as Christians, we should be doing it, rather than, merely speaking about it.
The end is closer than ever – let us be awake, and be praying, and be a loving and hospitable Christian, as a true disciple of the LORD. Therefore, let us take stock of ourselves. Let us seek earnestly to help those in need, out of love. May we, as Christians, in all that we do, display the LORD and His love, whom we claim to follow. So God help us.
"Where love abounds in a fellowship of Christians, many small offences, and even some large ones, are readily overlooked and forgotten. But where love is lacking, every word is viewed with suspicion, every action is liable to misunderstanding, and conflicts abound – to Satan’s perverse delight."
