The Bible talks very clearly about last days. Apostle Paul, writing to young Timothy, talks about how things would be in the last days. He says, “1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” – 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Right at the very beginning of the list of signs of the last days, are these words – “2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money…” Now if we see the world we live in today, it exactly fits the description of the Bible. “Love of money” is one of the signs of the last day, and we can see it all around us.
What should trouble a Christian is, not what the world is doing and pursuing. But rather, what we are pursuing in life. For Paul says this towards the end of the passage – “4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” – 2 Timothy 3:4.
‘Love of money,’ says the Word of God, is “the root of all evil” – 1 Timothy 6:10. The world we live in, is not only a slippery slope, but is completely geared up towards money, pleasure and power. Let us be aware of it, and be away from it. May the LORD help us.
"6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Thank you Kumara for today’s post. The verse 1 Timothy 6:10 – which says that the love of money is the root of all evil – is so true and it has in fact wrecked so many lives and has the potential to wreck many more. I have seen this more rampant in Software Professionals, because of the pattern of their lifestyles. Somehow a high-profile lifestyle gets imposed upon them by the peers and then job becomes a necessity, in order to pay off home loans, car loans and even credit bills. And sticking to a stressful job becomes a trap and source of even more stress for many. I hope the younger generation takes note of this and keeps itself from the love of money. Sticking to a well-planned and budgeted lifestyle is not a fence, it’s a guard rail!
