Life is full of needs to be met, and also fraught with disturbances, difficulties and dangers. Everything that we need in life, requires money and resources, to help us pay the bills, and purchase things that we need. How then should we conduct our lives? What should become our priority? What should we be wanting in life?
Now consider this man, that he only needs to have resources for his immediate family, but ought to help provide for over 10,000 children, plus staff for all their needs.
Today, 11 April, in 1836, George Mueller, opens his, now famous orphanage, on Wilson Street in Bristol, UK. Mueller depended not on regular fund-raising, but rather, his work was sustained by God, through thousands of “answers to prayer.”
Mueller not only lived by this principle – “to depend upon God for all his needs,” but also, actively taught it to those around him. When each child in the orphanage, was old enough to live on his own, George would pray with him, and put a Bible in his right hand, and a coin in his left. He explained to the young person that, if he held onto what was in his right hand, God would always make sure there was something in his left hand…a principle by which Mueller himself lived by.
May the LORD grant us His grace to look to Him, and learn to trust Him for all our needs. Let us remember that He is our Provider. “31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:31-33
"He that takes truth for his guide, and duty for his end, may safely trust to God’s providence to lead him aright."
