Man was created for work. Work was and still is part of human design by our Creator – “28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” “15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” – Genesis 1:28, 2:15
However, one needs to be cautious in what we work for. If our sole desire, and the only motive is money, and to get as much as possible, then we are on a wrong path. The Word of God says, “4 Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! 5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.” – Proverbs 23:4-6. Riches are fleeting and deceptive is what the Bible says.
When we run after riches and want to make as much money as possible, it becomes our trap and we will intimately destroy ourselves. The LORD puts this across very clearly – “9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…” – in 1 Timothy 6:9-10a
When we are faithful to the LORD, and do not run after money…making money our god, then we will see the real riches of heaven falling upon us – “20 A faithful man will abound with blessings…” “6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” – Proverbs 28:20a, 1 Timothy 6:6
"Great abundance of riches cannot be gathered and kept by any man without sin. Great eagerness in the pursuit of wealth, pleasure, or honour, cannot exist without sin."
