HOW SHOULD WE UNDERSTAND GOD, IN THE FACE IN INJUSTICE? Honestly speaking, I don’t know the answer to this question. Then the next obvious question is, “If so, why are you asking this question?” A very good question indeed. My quest is not to question God. We should never. It is not even to ask questions. My quest is to know the answer to this age old question, and to understand – “Where is God when it Hurts?”
Such questions may sound meaningless to some. Some may think, it is silly to ask such questions. Some may simply say, “God knows everything,” and “In His time He makes all things beautiful.” Though these words are true, they may not be comforting, and may appear empty, and devoid of any real comfort in merely “knowing” such statements, in the context of those who are experiencing extreme injustice. Now some may say, I am gone crazy.
The point I wish to drive at, is this, in the light of the recent atrocities in Manipur. How will we comfort those ladies who were abused by a bunch of men? What comfort can we bring to these ladies who were paraded naked by lecherous crowds of men, and then gang-raped them? What words can we speak to them? How can the words that we speak, bring comfort to them, in their agony and anguish?
What do we say to their husbands? What do we say to their children? What do we say to their parents? How would we be, if those ladies were related to us? I don’t have answers to any of these questions too.
My answer is found in the LORD. The LORD whom we serve, is not some inanimate and intangible Being, far removed from our reality. He know us and our pain. He know what it means to be abused and shamed. He know our agony, and our anguish. Doesn’t He?
The only confront to the questions that I asked, is found in the following passages – “17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” “15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” – Hebrews 2:17-18, Hebrews 4:15
May the LORD, who willingly and unasked, laid down His life for us, and our redemption, be the comfort and help to those ladies in Manipur, and to all who have suffered there. May He heal their hurts and wounds. May He guide them through these painful times, and lead them out of this anguish and pain. LORD please…
"16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
