Freedom and liberty have no meaning, nor any worth, if it is not seen in the context of the slavery and bondage. Freedom means to be free – however, the question that begs an answer is, “Why do we need freedom?” and “Freedom from what?* This brings us to conclude that, we were not free at some point, and had no power to do what we want. Therefore, our freedom has meaning, only when it is understood in the light of our slavery and our bondage.
When the Bible says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1, it should be seen in the light of our bondage and slavery to sin, and self-destruction.
As Christians, and as the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ, we have to understand and remember always, that at a certain point in time, we were bound to sin and Satan, as slaves, in perpetual bondage. We had no power to be free on our own. This ought to be in our minds always.
Let us thank God for all His goodness and grace, that He, so freely bestowed upon us, who do not merit any of it. May the LORD help us to found faithful and obedient to Him, and Him alone, all the days of our lives.
"Jesus Christ did not come into this world to make bad people good; he came into this world to make dead people live."
