Anything that is of value, does not come freely. There is a price to be paid…either by us, or someone, on our behalf. This is life, and the laws that govern it.
What comes to us freely is not actually free. It is paid for by someone. What does this tell about that “Someone?” The person who paid for us, is someone, who cares for us. He has thought about us, and our need, and came forward to provide all that is needed, so that we don’t have to pay for it. This is, love at its best, and speaks volumes about the person who paid. Isn’t that wonderful?
The freedom that we enjoy in life, as Christians, has come to us freely, but is actually paid for by the LORD Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free….” – Galatians 5:1a
The LORD describes our true status is thus – “22…for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” “23 For the wages of sin is death…” – Romans 3:22b-23; 6:23a. This is our status and our rightful earnings in life.
Freedom by nature, comes with a price and a cost. Our freedom that we have in Christ has come at an enormous cost. It coated the very blood of our Creator – “20 For you were bought with a price…” “24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” “18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” “7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,” – 1 Corinthians 6:20a; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Ephesians 1:7.
The LORD Jesus paid a very heavy price for our redemption. He paid for our freedom with His very own blood. Isn’t that “Good News?” The Bible talks not only about ‘WHAT’ of our freedom, but also about ‘WHY’ the LORD had done this for us – “16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
What kind of love is this, that *our freedom is bought by the blood of the Lamb of God?* Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. Let this hymn be our anthem for life.
"The Cross is the lightning rod of grace that short-circuited God's wrath to Christ so that only the light of His love remains for believers."
