Success doesn’t come just because someone is skilful. Yes, skill or talent is essential for success. However, just the skill does not take one very far. Tenacity is one of the important ingredients for success, and so also the ability to bounce back and repurpose one’s life, when hit with obstacles and adversity. The same applies to our walk with the LORD.
One such person is Josephine Butler in Northumberland, England. She stood helpless and devastated, as she witnessed her much loved daughter, plunge to death, right before her eyes. However, she did not lose heart, and lost the hope and her desire to live a meaningful life.
Josephine took up the responsibility of helping those even more broken-hearted than herself. She championed for the welfare and well-being of the downtrodden women, and brought the much needed help and relief to the prostitutes, by bring the gospel to them.
When we are hit with troubles and tragedies, we should not lose our heart, and crumble. Yes, the pain is real, and it can be devastating. Such times are painful, but that is when we has to rise up, and repurpose our lives. This repurposing of life will not only enable us to overcome the pain and the grief, but also will make our lives worthwhile and useful. Herein we find meaning and purpose for our shattered lives, just as Josephine Butler did.
May the LORD grant us His grace to be useful instruments of blessing in His hands.
"Character is both developed and revealed by tests, and all of life is a test... You will be tested by major changes, delayed promises, impossible problems, unanswered prayers, undeserved criticism, and even senseless tragedies."
