A Christian is called to rejoice at all times. This doesn’t mean we don’t have any struggles and storms. Neither does it mean that once we become Christians, life becomes a pleasure ride, filled with prosperity. The Word of God says that, life that we as a Christian are called to, is much more than storms, struggles, pleasures and comforts. In fact, it talks about we facing struggles, storms and sufferings…yet are exhorted to rejoice. Such a position will be considered insanity by the world, yet the reasons given in the Bible makes perfect sense to us.
The apostle Peter, writing to the early Church, who for sure, were being severely persecuted, has these words to comfort and encourage them. These words are surely an encouragement to us too, even today.
“6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honour, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.” – 1 Peter 1:6-9
Let no storm nor struggle stop us from praising God, and rejoicing in Him. When we are under the shadow of the Almighty [Psalm 91:1] and are led by our Good Shepherd [Psalm 23:1] we can’t but rejoice and praise God [1 Thessalonians 5:16-18] with a grateful heart, despite any struggles and sufferings that we might be facing. This is true. May the LORD help us to rejoice in the LORD, with joy inexpressible.
"Joy is not necessarily the absence of suffering, it is the presence of God."
