The character of love is such that it cares for the other person more than itself. It is not just care and concern, buy a deep desire to help change the situation and solve the issue at hand. This is what I gather from the Bible – “6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” “9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” – Romans 5:6-8, 1 John 4:9-11.
The lessons we can learn for ourselves from such an amazing love are these…
– Love cares enough to cross the fences and stand with the people, its enemies, intentionally.
– Love sees the others as human beings, and not through coloured lenses, prejudiced hearts, and predetermined positions.
– Love focuses more on could be done, the points we agree, than the mistakes of the others person, our differences.
– Love seeks to know the other person, as they are.
– Love seeks and searches to help the other person, and in the process help themselves.
– Loves doesn’t stick labels.
– Love doesn’t call names.
– Love It doesn’t use the binary framework – good and bad, us and them…
– Love is willing to stick its neck out.
– Love is willing to take the stick.
– Love is willing to pay the price.
– Love doesn’t give up on truth.
– Love is willing to give up the life, but not the principles, values and ethics we cherish so dearly – it wants to uphold them at all costs.
– Love is not for feeble-minded.
– Love is not for weak hearted.
– Love is not for fickle minded.
– Love is not to have double standards.
– Love may hurt the other person.
– Love is the only balm that can heal.
– Love is clear in its heart and mind.
– Love is clean in its motives and its intentions.
– Love may be choked and strangled to death, but love lives on, because love doesn’t die…it lives on.
– The world needs love.
– The world needs the love like that of the LORD Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
– The world needs Christians to live their LORD, whom they claim to follow.
– The world needs healing.
“7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” – 1 John 4:7-8
"God and love are synonymous. Love is not an attribute of God, it is God; whatever God is, love is."
