Paul writing to the Christians at Ephesus, says – “20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” – Ephesians 5:20. There are four very important things mentioned here – “giving thanks”“always”“for all things” and “to God, through Jesus.”
The first, and the last, is not too difficult to decipher. We are to give thanks. Our thanks are to be given to God the Father, in and through the name of our LORD Jesus Christ. The point being made is, we give thanks to Father, through His Son and our LORD – the only Mediator between God and man – 1 Timothy 2:5.
ALWAYS – means, at all times. The times could be good or bad. They could be painful or joyful. They could be terrible or extraordinary. They could be disheartening or inspiring. The point being made is, we should not worry or be concerned about what kind of times we are going through, but rather, always be thankful to God the Father, through our LORD Jesus Christ!!! HalleluYah!!!
FOR ALL THINGS – means, for anything and everything. It could be good or bad. It could be painful or joyful. It could be terrible or extraordinary. It could be disheartening or inspiring. The point being made is, we should not worry, or be concerned about what kind of THINGS that we are experiencing, but rather, be thankful for all things, to God the Father, through our LORD Jesus Christ!!! HalleluYah!!!
What Paul is writing in Ephesians 5:20, is something which is in-line with the rich tradition of all godly people, as recorded for us, in the Word of God – “1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” “18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – Psalms 34:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:18. The LORD is our Provider, our Protector and therefore our Praise – Psalm 23.
How are things going with us? How are we responding, to all sorts of situations, in our lives? Whatever may be our situation, and whatever we might be going through, let us always remember to give thanks to God, through our LORD Jesus Christ. For this is good, and this is what the LORD wills.
Have a great day, and a blessed week.
"A sensible thanksgiving for mercies received is a mighty prayer in the Spirit of God. It prevails with Him unspeakably."
