The season of advent, is a season to reflect on our faith, and recommit ourselves to our LORD and our Redeemer. The beginning of the gospel of John, begins with the very beginning. John 1:1 says, “1 In the beginning was the Word…” What a reference point, in the history, to begin with.
The words, “In the beginning was the Word…” helps us to frame our minds, and settle it forever, that the Word of God, which is, the LORD Jesus Christ, was there at the very beginning. The beginning that is indicated here, is the beginning of the creation, and not the beginning of the Word.
The Word, as we realise from the Bible, is eternal, and has no beginning, nor an end. Our LORD and our Redeemer is, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end of all things – Revelation 22:13. The Word of God, the LORD Jesus Christ, the second Person in the trinity, is uncreated, eternally existent, and is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent, just as the Father and the Holy Spirit. For we believe in One God, eternally existent in three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – “7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” – 1 John 5:7
As we progress in this beautiful season of Advent, let us meditate on our God who chose to be born, just like you and me, to save us. May the season of advent, help us grow deeper and stronger in our understanding of the LORD our God. May we be His true followers, and His faithful witnesses, in this world.
"Emmanuel. God with us. He who resided in Heaven, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, willingly descended into our world. He breathed our air, felt our pain, knew our sorrows, and died for our sins. He didn't come to frighten us, but to show us the way to warmth and safety."
