Human life has meaning and a purpose to its existence. If not, life would become meaningless, worthless and a dead end. In Ecclesiastes 3:1, the wise king of the Bible says, “1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:” – a season or time, and a purpose.
As we meditate upon the wonderful season of Advent, let us see what the Word of God says about the purpose of Jesus’ birth. This helps us see the Advent in a brighter and clearer light.
“10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” “14…the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.” “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” “21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” “22…the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).” – Luke 19:10, 1 John 4:14, John 3:16, Matthew 1:21, Matthew 1:22-23.
We gather this from the above scripture portions – God loved us, the fallen human beings, and sent Jesus Christ, to seek and save us, by taking up our rightful punishment, for the sins we have committed, and die as an offering to save us from the consequences of our sins. This is the purpose of the LORD Jesus Christ, for His incarnation. Praise be to the LORD for His love, grace and mercy!!!
"The very purpose of Christ's coming into the world was that He might offer up His life as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He came to die. This is the heart of Christmas."
