Advent is a season of pausing and meditation for our spiritual upliftment. Advent also has some important lessons on leadership. The study of the birth, life and ministry, death, resurrection and the ascension of our LORD Jesus Christ has such priceless wisdom for us.
Jesus had the task of “seeking and saving the lost” – Luke 19:10. For this task, He Himself had to ‘become’ the sacrifice, and offer Himself as the “blemishless lamb” – 1 Peter 1:18-21. He was faithful to the task entrusted to Him, and accomplished it when He shouted the victory cry on the cross of Calvary – “It is finished!”
After finishing the work entrusted to Him, Jesus then entrusted the work of spreading the good news to us – Matthew 28:18-20. This is delegation of responsibility. Such a delegation of work, reflects the faith and trust, placed in us, by our LORD, to carry forward the work accomplished by our LORD. This speaks about the LORD, more than our ability or our goodness.
The lesson we, as the disciples of the LORD, ought to learn, from the life and ministry of the LORD Jesus, is this – whatever is entrusted to our care, by our LORD and Master, we have to work for it, with single-minded focus, and integrity, sparing no effort, and with all our heart, soul and spirit.
The next lesson for us to learn is this – to entrust the same to faithful and trustworthy people, so that they will carry forward the work of the gospel.
2 Timothy 2:2 – “2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
May the LORD help us to appreciate and honour, the trust and the faith, placed in is by our LORD. May we be faithful and obedient to the LORD, and be found as ‘good and faithful servant’ in regards to this responsibility entrusted, to us. May we spare no effort to preach the gospel ‘in season and out of season’ – 2 Timothy 2:4a.
"True spiritual leadership isn't about exercising control but about delegating tasks and developing future leaders."
