When Adam and Eve rebelled against God, and declared their own freedom, they not just broke the law, and the relationship, between God and us, but have broken many things…in fact, everything, is a better word. It may appear, and may be well considered by many, as a small thing. However, that one small, and seemingly insignificant act, had such catastrophic effect on the whole world, forever. That small thing, altered our status and ability so drastically, that it required God Himself to come down to set things right. The reason being, we disqualified ourselves utterly. This fact itself, speaks about the seriousness of our rebellion, and its a depth.
The earth and the universe was ‘very good,’ and absolutely perfect, when God created it – “31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” – Genesis 1:31. When we rebelled, we shattered and destroyed everything into, irretrievable pieces, and made it simply irreparable. Sin broke the world, and all things beautiful, in it…forever.
“5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” “11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.” “9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” “2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. 3 They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.” – Genesis 6:5,11-12; Jeremiah 17:9; Psalm 14:2-3
The brokenness that is visible in the world is permanent and irreparable. Our Creator, to restore man, had Himself, come down, and made it possible for us to get a new heart…a heart of flesh, instead of stone – “26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – Ezekiel 36:26; 2 Corinthians 5:17;
Also, the damage to the everything else, had made it a necessity, to create a new earth, and a new heaven – “17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.” “13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” – Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13. Isn’t that wonderful? HalleluYah!!! It sure is!
God did not abandon us, as we have abandoned God. He showed mercy, grace and love, towards us, who absolutely do not deserve it. He paid the price, and bought our redemption. The LORD is working upon all, who are His, to restore, renew and transform us totally. What an amazing God is our LORD!!! He chose to reach out, redeem, renew and restore us back to the original image. Praise be to the LORD!!!
"We live in a broken world - of that there is no doubt - but, because of Christ, let us thank God that we do not live in a hopeless world."
