Obedience to God is, one of the most important trait in a Christian. Its significance is because of what obedience does to the person. When we obey God, His commands, and His promptings, we lift Him up, firstly, in our hearts and our lives. Then, our obedience to God, lifts Him up, in the sight of others, who are around us. Thus, God is worshiped and glorified when we obey Him.
One man, whose death anniversary is today, 18 February, happens to be someone whose obedience to God has cause a revolution to start. Today is, the German reformer, Martin Luther’s 478th death anniversary. He died in the year 1546, at Eisleben in Germany.
Luther is truly a man of courage mad conviction. When he was convicted in his heart, that our salvation rests solely on God’s gracious work through Jesus Christ, and not in human efforts, works and charity, Luther couldn’t rest until he had done something about his conviction. There were many before Martin Luther, who stood firmly for God, and laid the foundation. Many of whom have paid the cost with their lives.
God used Luther, to ignite a fire, that spread far and wide, like wildfire. Luther is truly a hero, because of his courage to stand up for his convictions. He disregarded his personal safety, and stood for what is right and true. Such exemplary courage inspired the people around him, to stand up for the truth, and fight for it, even if it meant losing their lives. It is all too obvious, what one man’s implicit obedience to God, had brought about.
We are living in an age where silence is preferred over courage and common-sense, to speak the truth. Personal safety and security, over our desire to stand for God. We need people like Martin Luther, who can stand up for their convictions. May the LORD raise men and women, who would stand for God.
"Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times."
