On the “Triumphal Entry of Jesus” into Jerusalem, on what we call today, the Palm Sunday, we see an out of the world celebrations. Jerusalem was packed with pilgrims. The air was filled with the anticipation for the Messiah…the Deliverer. The hopes were raised sky high, by the mighty miracle of, raising Lazarus from the dead, after three days of burial. The people of Israel believed, their freedom was within their grasp…and Jesus their Deliverer, the Prophet foretold by Moses, and their King…at last.
The people lined up the streets to welcome Jesus Christ of Nazareth; the donkey was bought; palm branches were waved; people willing laid down their coats and clothes, on the road, for Jesus to ride into Jerusalem. The streets of Jerusalem were reverberating with the sounds of “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Hosanna in the highest!” – Matthew 21:9
The tragedy was, and still is, that, the people were looking for a different kind of freedom and liberty, than, what the LORD Jesus had come to give us, through His suffering and sacrifice. They were seeking to revive their earthly kingdom. Jesus was ushering in, and establishing the kingdom of God, as intended by our Creator, when our first parents sinned.
In line with the eternal plan of salvation by the LORD our Creator, the Passover Lamb was to be chosen on that particular day, to be offered as the sacrificial lamb, specified by the law of the LORD, on the Passover day – Exodus 12:1-14. It is no coincidence, nor an accident, that Jesus chose to ride into Jerusalem, on that particular day, the day when the Passover Lamb was chosen, and set apart, for the sacrifice…for the remission of our sins. HalleluYah to our Passover Lamb!!!
How are we looking at Jesus? Is He our Passover Lamb? Or, is He simply a means to achieve our own personal ends and agenda? Are we merely using God, as a means to meet, our own needs and dreams? May the LORD help us to be true and faithful followers of the LORD. May He be truly lifted up, enthroned and worshipped in our lives. May the LORD bless our Psalm Sunday.
"So let us spread before his feet, not garments or soulless olive branches, which delight the eye for a few hours and then wither, but ourselves, clothed in his grace, or rather, clothed completely in him."
