Habits are a powerful force. They influence us, and our decisions immensely. Many times we do not realise how much power they exert on us. Hence, we need to take care, in choosing carefully and wisely, what habits we form. They have the power to build or break us down. If not careful, they will destroy us.
If we want to know a person, we should look for his habits, and not his talents. Habits one has, tell much more clearly, the heart of that person, than the talents that one possesses. Blaise Pascal says, “The strength of a man’s virtue should not be measured by his special exertions, but by his habitual acts.”
What we do everyday, is an indication of our thoughts, dreams, desires and that which we dearly want. That is why we have to pay close attention to what we want. Horace Bushnell says, “Habits are to the soul what the veins and arteries are to the blood, the courses in which it moves.”
May the LORD help us to invest in habits, that will shape us, and build us. May we sincerely seek such habits, and pursue them passionately. “1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:1-2
Our only desire should be, for our life, and in all that we will ever do, is to please our LORD, and a deep longing to hear Him say, “21…‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things…Enter into the joy of your lord.'” – Matthew 25:21
"Every single day, we make hundreds of choices without being aware of it. Most of those choices, we make automatically, based on the choices we made yesterday and the day before that. We are creatures of habit, so what habits are you forming today and what impact will they have a year from now?""
