Life that a Christian is called to, is drastically different, from anything the world has ever seen, or heard. We are called to be the servants, and be SELFLESS and SELF-SACRIFICING while representing our LORD, and in serving His kingdom. The quicker the Christian realises this, the better it is for us, and for the kingdom of God.
When we see Jesus Christ, our LORD and our Redeemer, we see the embodiment of the above virtues – “27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Jesus said, “27…I am among you as the One who serves.” “14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master…” – Matthew 20:27-28; Luke 22:27b; John 13:14-16.
Our fruitfulness for the kingdom of God is, tied up with, how close we walk to our calling. The closer we walk, to what the LORD is calling us to, as His disciples, the more brighter we will shine for the LORD – “13 “You are the salt of the earth…14 “You are the light of the world…15…they light a lamp and put it…on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13-16
The disciples is expected to be SELFLESS and SELF-SACRIFICING in our thoughts, words and deeds…just like our Master – “1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” – Ephesians 5:1-2
How are we faring? How does our ‘self’ interfere in our shaping up as a disciple of Christ? Are we becoming more like our Saviour, as the days pass by? Do people see the image of our Master in our thoughts, words and deeds? Let take time to pause and ponder our spiritual status – “12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” – Romans 13:12-14
"Putting on Christ'...is not one among many jobs a Christian has to do; and it is not a sort of special exercise for the top class. It is the whole of Christianity. Christianity offers nothing else at all."
