The LORD is our Shepherd. He leads us, guides us, and cares for us. He is our Provider. He takes care of all our needs. In fact, it is His business to take care of our needs, and therefore, we do not need to worry. He will surely lead us to green pastures, and to the still waters. Isn’t He an amazing Shepherd? He sure is.
As we continue our meditation on Psalm 23, let us see what is in store for us in verses 4 and 5…
– “4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
The Shepherd who provides what we need, is also the Shepherd who protects us. The “Shepherd and the Overseer of our soul” [1 Peter 2:25] walks before us. He leads the flock from the front. He ensures that we are well protected. He ensures that the dangers if any, should cross Him first, even before it touches us. Unless He grants it permission, they will not come close to us.
David, in Psalm 18 verses 2-3, describes the LORD as our Protector. Isn’t that comforting and encouraging? It sure is.
– “2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” – Psalm 18:2-3. The LORD is our everything!!!
As we walk through all kinds of situations, struggles and storms, let us be comforted and strengthened in our spirits, that the LORD our God, stands right beside us. He will never let us down. Even though, we may have to walk through the valley of the shadow of death…so be it, but the LORD will lead us to safety, through it all. Therefore, let us learn to trust and obey our Shepherd. In this is our safety and our security. In this, and this alone, is our safety and security.
"...though I am in peril of death, though in the midst of dangers, deep as a valley, dark as a shadow, and dreadful as death itself: or rather, though I am under the arrests of death, and have received the sentence of death within myself, and have every reason to look upon myself as a dying man: I will fear no evil — I will not give way to my fears, but will confidently rely upon the word and promise of God, persuaded that his grace shall be sufficient for me, and that he will make even death itself work for my good."
