David ends Psalm 23 with a promise, that is held out by YAHWEH, to all who accept and acknowledge Him. “6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” – Psalm 23:6.
The presence of the Good Shepherd, changes the environment that we are in. In the midst of STORM, we find PEACE. In the midst of STRUGGLES, we find REST. In midst of PROBLEMS, we find SOLUTIONS. In the midst of TRIALS, TESTINGS and TRIBULATIONS, we find COMFORT and TRANQUILITY.* Therefore David confidently declares, “SURELY…I WILL..” It speaks about David’s faith in God.
“6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” – is the blessing of the LORD upon all who trust and obey Him.
“6…I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” – is the promise and the covenant that the LORD makes with those who will trust and obey Him… – “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
What about us? Do we have such a promise? Do we look to the LORD for all that we need? Is the LORD our Shepherd? Is the LORD our Provider? Is the LORD our Protector? Is the LORD our hope, help and shelter? Let us honestly consider these questions.
"The mere presence of the shepherd puts the sheep at peace. When he is near, they don't panic, and they don't fight. They can lay down in peaceful slumber. It's the same with you and me. Nothing reduces stress like the presence of the Shepherd. When you are living in close connection to Jesus, you can sleep, you can relax, you can rest."
