“CHRISTIAN” WITH A CONSCIENCE may sound very controversial statement, if not heresy. To be a Christian with a conscience is “living hell.” This again may come across as a controversial statement, if not heresy. The sense of justice is heightened when one becomes a Christian. By virtue of walking the Christian path – the “Narrow Way” – our sense of utter “helplessness” in getting the justice done, is nothing short of “living hell.” We cannot cross the path that our LORD laid out, and we cannot do anything about the injustice. What a situation to be in…
– “3 LORD, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph? 4 They utter speech, and speak insolent things; All the workers of iniquity boast in themselves. 5 They break in pieces Your people, O LORD, And afflict Your heritage. 6 They slay the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless.” – Psalms 94:3-6
What adds to the pain, anguish and agony is the fact that God “seems” to be away, from all that is unfolding. For example – A Christian young lady is brutally raped, as part of organised persecution campaign against Christians. What adds insult to injury is the perpetrator is roaming free, and the systems that are to hold the guilty accountable, seems to stand with the perpetrator. How would a Christian with conscience feel in such a situation? Would we not experience the “living hell?”
There are some Christians, who hold Bibles, and preach left right and centre, but strangely, seem to have lapses of memory, about they being Christians, and ambassadors of Christ, when injustices happen right under their watchful gaze, and they seem to be blissfully ignorant, and completely blind to the reality around. Hitler had his own churchmen, so did the Klu Klux Klan, and the “profitable” slave traders.
Some of the above are helpless to do anything; some turn a blind eye, because they have no allegiance to the LORD; some others are the active and wholehearted participants. The Church history is replete with many such incidents, where *the bishops and the priests have aided and abetted the injustices and crimes, perpetrated by the powerful and the powers that be.* What a tragedy it is, and a “living hell” for a Christian with conscience.
Thankfully the LORD is aware, and He will respond at the right time. He will never let an injustice pass by, without bringing it to account. Nothing will ever pass His gaze. Meanwhile, let us continue to look to our LORD, and wait upon Him patiently. He will strengthen us, and will lead us through every dark and dangerous storm. This is for sure…
– “4 “Do you not know this of old, Since man was placed on earth, 5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment? 6 Though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens, And his head reaches to the clouds, 7 Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse; Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’” – Job 20:4-7
Even so the LORD help us, to walk faithfully and obediently on the “Narrow Way” in true faith, and absolute obedience. The LORD will!!!
"Lament is a prayer in pain that leads to trust. It is not only how Christians grieve; it is the way Christians praise God through their sorrows. Lament is a pathway to praise when life gets hard. . . . Laments use the honest rehearsing of grief in order to deepen our confidence in God’s grace....The elements of lament are (1) turning to God in prayer, (2) bringing our complaints, (3) asking boldly, and (4) choosing to trust (or praise)."
