One of the most commonest trait of a worker, in all parts of the world is, negligence, careless and superficial attitude, towards work. In simpler terms, eyewash and deception. The Word of God uses the words, eyeservice and men-pleasers to describe such an attitude.
Let us meditate on the same passage from Colossians 3;22-25, that we looked at yesterday, and see what the Bible says about, our attitude towards work.
– *”22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.” – Colossians 3:22-25
The heart of man is, so clearly visible, in the way we approach the work, that is entrusted to our care, by our earthly masters and employees. We are exhorted by the apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God, to be different from the rest of the world. We, as a Christian worker, are expected to be men and women of integrity, honesty and transparency. We are exhorted, not to be workers, who employ eyeservice – we are advised, not to be men-pleasers.
What is the attitude, with which we are engaging in the work, that is given to us? What are we doing with all that the LORD has given us – the time, the talents and the opportunities? Let us forget not, we are to give an account of all that is given to us. May the LORD grant us His grace to be workers who truly represent our LORD. Even so, the LORD help us.
"The Christian who is a dishonest, lazy or unreliable worker has something far worse to deal with than a reprimand from his earthly supervisor. His heavenly supervisor may prepare a reprimand as well."
