Continuing our “Train of Thought” from yesterday, let us look at Joshua 1:6, and see what we can learn from it. This entire passage, between verse 6 and 9, is an important conversation between the LORD God Almighty, and Joshua, the newly appointed leader of the Hebrews.
– “6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.” – Joshua 1:6
These words of instruction have come on the heels of what had happened to Moses. The great and towering leader, that Moses was, is denied the entry into the “Promised Land” – a responsibility, for which he, had been longing all his life…entering the promised land. Naturally, Joshua would be tensed, worried and scared, about how he could handle, such an enormous task, where Moses, the great leader had “failed” – in a sense. Taking stock of the reality is good, and we should. However, self-doubt and insecurity can destabilise us, and make us unfit to carry on the task, entrusted to us.
What responsibility do God put on your shoulders? What is it that is bothering us? What are we concerned about? Is the weight of what God is asking from us, weighing us down? At such times as these, we ought to “BE STRONG, AND OF GOOD COURAGE” – worrying about nothing, because the LORD is with us.
"Some consider it a trivial matter for a believer’s mind to be confused, swirling with doubts and fears, but God doesn’t think so. Our Master doesn’t want us to be fearful. Instead, he wants us to be without worry, doubt, and cowardice. Our Master doesn’t think as lightly about our unbelief as we do."
