The LORD wants us, the Christians, who are His disciples and followers, to truly represent Him. The LORD Jesus wants us to live, caring for others, and serving them. In doing so, we are fulfilling the “Law of Christ.”
– “2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
If we notice the teachings of Christ our Redeemer, He wants us to be “others” oriented, and not self oriented. We are to be looking outward, and not inward. We called to be servants, and not lords. We are expected to be “self-less” and not selfish. This is the “Law of Christ” which we are called to fulfill.
– “2 Let each of us please his neighbour for his good, to build him up.” – Romans 15:2
– “24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbour.” – 1 Corinthians 10:24
– “3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,” – Philippians 2:3-5
The apostle Luke, writing in Acts 20:35, records the words of Paul to the Ephesian Christians, which surely will enlighten our understanding, about the way of the LORD.
– “35 I have shown you in every way, by labouring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Paul, writing in his epistles to the young Church, has these insights for our benefit and blessing.
– “1 We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.” – Romans 15:1
– “14 Now we exhort you, brethren…comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:14
How is it going with us? What is the dominant force that is driving us? Are our interests, and our benefits, taking precedence over others, and their needs? Do others come second in our lives? What position do others have in our lives…LAST?
– “28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:28
– “12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” – John 13:12-15
Even so the LORD help us to fulfill the “Law of Christ” our Redeemer and our LORD.
"'Bear one another’s burdens.' This is a simple command to obey. Look for a brother or a sister with a burden, and help them with it. It isn’t complicated, and it doesn’t take a huge program or infrastructure to do it. Just look for a burden to bear and bear it."
