Many times, as we walk through the “valley of the shadow of death,” we become so utterly “faithless” because of the darkness around us, and the dread within us. We see such circumstances in the lives of the apostles, and also, many a Christian. Do we remember when our LORD Jesus had to scold the disciples, *”O ye of little faith”* – Matthew 6:30; 8:26; 14:31; 16:8; 17:20. Sounds “little,” but it is not so “little,” after all.
– “‘Little faith’ is not a little fault; for it greatly wrongs the Lord, and sadly grieves the fretful mind. To think the Lord who clothes the lilies will leave his own children naked is shameful. O little faith, learn better manners!” – C. H. Spurgeon
Robert Murray McCheyne, the great Scottish clergyman, preacher and writer, on 29 January 1839, observes on the subject of our needs, and God’s all sufficient provision, writes these words in a letter…
– “God feeds the wild flowers on the lonely mountain side without the help of man…. So God can feed his own planted ones without the help of man, by the sweetly falling dew of his Spirit.”
The God of all creation, the One who created you and me, will take care of all our needs. We need not worry. Rather, we ought to be seeking His kingdom, and His righteousness, with all our heart, soul, mind, body and strength. In this context let us read, what our LORD has to speak to us, from Matthew chapter 6.
WE CANNOT SERVE TWO MASTERS – GOD and RICHES
– “24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” – Matthew 6:24
WHATEVER OUR NEED, DO NOT WORRY – HAVE FAITH IN GOD
– “25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” – Matthew 6:25
WORRIED ABOUT FOOD? – TRUST GOD
– “26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” – Matthew 6:26
WORRIED ABOUT CLOTHING? – TRUST GOD
– ’27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” – Matthew 6:27-30
SO, DO NOT WORRY DEAR CHRISTIAN – GOD KNOWS IT ALL – TRUST GOD
– “31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” – Matthew 6:31-32
WHAT SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED ABOUT, THEN?
– “33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” – Matthew 6:33-34
Let us always remember the danger that lurks because of that “little” faith, *”You can be as unfaithful to God through care as well as through covetousness.”* – A. B. Bruce. Here under are some worthwhile gleanings from the above text, for our life, and our living.
1- Trust God and be rest assured. Have no worries about provision. God will take care of all our needs.
2- Be concerned with all our hearts, about the God’s work, entrusted to us.
3- Walk faithfully and obediently on the path that He wants us to.
May our lives, always reflect Him, the One who called us all, out of darkness, into His marvellous light – 1 Peter 2:9-10. Even so the LORD help us.
"'What you will eat or what you will drink…what you will put on:' "These three inquiries engross the whole attention of those who are living without God in the world. The belly and back of a worldling are his compound god; and these he worships in the lust of the flesh, in the lust of the eye, and in the pride of life."
