The love that God demonstrates towards the fallen world, and the human beings is, steadfast, amazing and beyond our comprehension. Today, let us look at Psalm 36:7-9 and know, what David has to write anew, about the love of God.
– “7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.” – Psalm 36:7-9
In the above three verses we can learn a whole range of things about the love that God demonstrates, which in fact is, a reflection of His very nature.
– “How precious is your steadfast love, O God!” – David describes the love of God as precious and steadfast. God’s love is steadfast, and therefore, it is precious.
– “The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” – God, by virtue of His love, which is precious to us, is the refuge – a place of shelter and security from all harm and danger. Hence, children of mankind find their shelter and refuge, in the shadow of His wings…under His care and His providence…all because of His steadfast love…therefore, precious.
– “8 They feast on the abundance of your house,” – Not only do the children of mankind find refuge, but they feast on the abundance of everything, that is made available to all, who take shelter in His house…the shadow of His wings.
– “and you give them drink from the river of your delights.” – We find not only security, shelter, and abundance of everything, but also refreshing drink, from the rivers of God, which revives a broken and downcast spirit, and rejuvenates him with life, and resurrects him to liveliness.
– “9 For with you is the fountain of life;” – More important and precious than all things is that, we would find the very fountain of life – the source of all life – which is only available in God. With God, we find the true meaning of life, and the purpose for the same. This is finding the fountain of life.
– “in your light do we see light.” – Sight is different from vision. When we come to God, drawn by His love, we not only see things clearly, but see things as they are, and as they are supposed to be seen. It is like someone switching on light, in the darkness, and everything becomes clearly visible.
We find in God, a refuge, a shelter, an abundance of the best things to feast upon, a refreshing river of pleasure, the fountain of life, and the light that enlightens us, to see things clearly, as they are meant to be seen. All this is possible because of God’s steadfast – steady, continuous, consistent and constant – love of God. What word would aptly define and describe such kind of love? Yes, PRECIOUS LOVE which can be found, only in the God of the Bible. HalleluYah!!!
"How excellent [precious] is thy loving-kindness...though all thine attributes be excellent and glorious, yet, above all, thy mercy [loving-kindness] is most excellent, or precious and amiable, as being most necessary and beneficial unto us, poor sinful miserable men."
