Empires and the emperors of this world want to control everything, including God. Such is their lust for power. We see it in “churches” “christian” organisations and in individual “Christians” too. “Sadly” and “unfortunately” God is not man, that they can control and manipulate to their advantage. Neither is YAHWEH like others, that claim to be gods, that He could be used, to serve the interests of the power-mongers.
The Bible declares loudly and clearly that, the God of the Bible is different. Let us read Psalm 33:10-11.
– “10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. 11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.” – Psalm 33:10-11
The LORD God Almighty is Sovereign, and His thoughts and His deeds are beyond the compression of the mortal man, and his lust for power. The list of things mentioned in these two verses, is an eye opener about God, and His stature, which, when compared to man, draws this stark contrast between finite man, and the infinite God. There is no comparison whatsoever.
– The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing
– He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
– The counsel of the LORD stands forever,
– The plans of His heart to all generations.
In the light of the above description of God, drawn in contrast with man, is an embarrassment, to say the least, to realise the true stature of the proud, and arrogant man, so full of self-boasting. Small wonder then the Bible says, “What is man…?”
– “3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” – Psalm 8:3-4
– “3 O LORD, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? 4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.” – Psalm 144:3
Some more Scriptures for us to gain a clearer image of who man is, and thus, who the nations are, that tend to pick a fight with God, and their hateful desire to prevail against Him.
– “21 There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the LORD’s counsel – that will stand.” – Proverbs 19:21
– “12 He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. 13 He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them. 14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night.” – Job 5:12-14
– “24 The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand:…27 For the LORD of hosts has purposed, And who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, And who will turn it back?” – Isaiah 14:24,27
– “9 Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,” – Isaiah 46:9-10
– “30 There is no wisdom or understanding Or counsel against the LORD.” – Proverbs 21:30
Many have come and gone, in the history of mankind, trying to stand up against the LORD God Almighty – the Tower of Babel, Pharaoh, Haman, Goliath, many of the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the religious heads of Jesus’ day, trying to thwart the plans and the purposes of God. No one could stop, any of God’s purposes. Every single one of them is fulfilled…and it will be so, in the days to come. Man may try his best, for as long as he wants, it would ultimately end up in failure.
Let us earnestly desire and work towards knowing our God, and let us learn to trust Him at all times, and under all circumstances. For the LORD God Almighty is Sovereign, and He reigns over all. HalleluYah! Soli Gloria Deo!!!
"...God, by his own overruling purpose and providence, frustrates the designs of the nations of the earth; that he carries forward his own designs and purposes in spite of theirs; that their plans avail nothing when they come in competition with his. their purposes must yield to His purpose."
