Grace of God is such that it is both SUFFICIENT and PERFECT for us and all our needs. These are not my words, but what the LORD says in response to Paul’s prayer.
– “8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
Paul prayed to the LORD for a particular thing that was troubling him. He prayed about it thrice – this indicates how much he was being troubled, and how he sought the LORD for help and relief. Sounds similar to any of our situations?
The response of the LORD is what we should be focussing on.
– “9…“MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU, FOR MY STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS.”
What comfort is drawn out of these words! The LORD knows our every situation. He is not only aware of them, but He is right beside us, and is enabling us to walk through it all. Therefore the words, “SUFFICIENT FOR YOU” and “MY STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS”
Small wonder then that, Paul is overjoyed by what the LORD had said to him thrice, and declares…
– “10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
When the LORD walks with us, His grace rests upon us. When God’s grace rests upon us, He makes things move for His glory, by His strength and for our blessing. What more can one ask for? What more would one need? HalleluYah!!! Let us join the apostle Paul in shouting…
– “… FOR WHEN I AM WEAK, THEN I AM STRONG.”
ALL GLORY TO THE LORD!!!
Let us look at a few other Scripture portions that would give us a greater and clearer understanding of God, His grace, and how it helps us, in all our testing and troubling times.
– “13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
– “27 Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the LORD, And my just claim is passed over by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:27-31
– “14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16
May we always remember, and never ever forget that, God’s GRACE is SUFFICIENT for us, and God’s STRENGTH is made PERFECT in all our weaknesses – GOD’S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT AND PERFECT FOR ALL OUR SITUATIONS. Let us not worry about anything that is happening in and around us, but rather, let us, looking towards Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith, run the race that is set before us, with patience and perseverance – Hebrews 12;1-2.
"'for My power is perfected in weakness' - This paradoxical statement reveals a key principle of Christian faith: God's power is most evident when human strength is lacking. It reflects the idea that human weakness provides an opportunity for divine strength to be displayed. This is consistent with the biblical narrative where God often chooses the weak and humble to accomplish His purposes, as seen in the stories of David, Gideon, and others. It also points to the ultimate example of Christ, whose crucifixion appeared as weakness but was the means of salvation."
