God speaking to the people of Israel, asks them to REMEMBER something, and then goes on to tell them that, they WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN BY GOD, because they are His People, His servants, and that, God Himself had formed or created them. Isn’t it wonderful to know the heart of God towards His people? God does not forget His people – that is you, me and all who place their trust and faith in Him – Jew or Gentile…
– “21 “Remember these, O Jacob, And Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me!” – Isaiah 44:21
The context of verse 21 is in a much larger setting. God is urging His people, to consider the futility of trusting an idol to save them and keep them safe – Isaiah 44:6-20, because there is no other God beside YAHWEH, the God of the Bible. That is why the LORD says, “Remember these…”
People of God are in exile, in Babylon, because of their sin, and their rebellion against their God. YAHWEH is reminding His people, how futile it is to trust anything or anyone other than the LORD God of all creation.
– “As Israel remembers the foolishness of making and worshipping idols, it should inspire greater trust and confidence in God. When we think about the alternatives to following the LORD, it should make us follow Him all the more closely.” – David Guzik
On God’s part, He will never ever forget what He had promised. He will always remain faithful, merciful and gracious towards us, His chosen people – 1 Peter 2:9-10.
– “1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.” – Psalm 121
We ought to remember always, and never ever forget that, God who had created us, is worthy of all our praise and worship, apart from our faithful obedience towards Him. Where do we stand? May the LORD help us to remember they God never forgets us, and we ought to walk faithfully and obediently on His ways, not matter what. Even so the LORD help us.
"'O Israel, I will never forget you' - This assurance of God's unfailing memory and commitment to Israel is a profound promise of His enduring faithfulness. Despite Israel's unfaithfulness, God remains steadfast. This promise is echoed in the New Testament, where believers are assured of God's constant presence and love (Hebrews 13:5). The phrase also anticipates the new covenant, where God’s people are eternally remembered and redeemed through Christ."
