One of the most precious things in life is, to know that, someone truly cares for us, and thinks about us, and our welfare. This is something that money cannot buy it, nor can influence and connections make it happen. It is love, that motivates and moves someone, to think about us, and to truly care for us, and our welfare. This love is not only precious and priceless, it is love of another kind. It is a love that places us above itself, and its interests. Therefore, this love is so special.
Let us read from Psalm 139:17-18, to see this love being mentioned by the Psalmist.
– “17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.” – Psalm 139:17-18
The Psalmist who understood the love of God, and its depth and width, begins by saying, *”How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!”* God’s thoughts towards us are precious – meaning – it is of inestimable value.
The Psalmist does not stop there. He goes on to say, “how great is the sum of them!” The second expression is added for emphasis, to enlighten the reader about the significance of God’s love towards us. The total value, and the worth of God’s thoughts towards us is, great – meaning, it is incalculable.
The Psalmist, then goes on to make it clear to the reader, and gives an example which anyone can understand – “If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:” The play on words should not be missed, to truly understand and appreciate the Psalmist’s description of God’s love towards us. He beings with “IF I SHOULD COUNT THEM” – this is to let us know that, it is impossible to count the number of thoughts that, God thinks about one single person.
The Psalmist then gives us an example of the innumerable nature of God’s thoughts towards us – “they are more in number than the sand:” What a comparison!!! It is simply impossible to count the sand grains…so also,, God’s precious and priceless thoughts towards us. HalleluYah!!!
May the knowledge of the fact that, God thinks about us, to begin with, and that,, His thoughts towards us are precious and priceless, should encourage us to look forward to each day, with great joy and anticipation. Regardless of all that may be happening in and around us, the mere fact that God’s thoughts towards us are so many that, it is impossible to even begin to count them, should not only comfort us, but actually give us courage to step out in faith, into the new day, that is just breaking out. Oh how precious LORD… Soli Gloria Deo!!!
"In biblical context, "thoughts" can refer to God's plans, purposes, and intentions. The Hebrew word for "precious" suggests something rare and valuable, akin to jewels or treasures. This reflects the psalmist's deep appreciation for God's wisdom and understanding...The vastness of God's thoughts indicates their infinite nature, suggesting that they are beyond human comprehension."
