We come across many people in our lives. Not all people are good. All whom we meet in life, don’t become our friends. *Friends are very special people. They have a heart which is different, so also their motives and intentions.* They have needs and necessities, but they don’t use us selfishly, to help meet their own needs. Asking for help is entirely different from, taking advantage of the friendship.
The Word of God describes a friend as someone who is a blessing for us. The same is expected of us – to be a blessing in our friend’s life.
– “17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” – Proverbs 27:17
Sharpening is required only when the instrument, especially like a knife, becomes blunt, and is unable to do what it is supposed to do efficiently. So, a friend is someone who will help us do what is expected of us, when we are unable to do it, for various reasons. Isn’t that wonderful? Isn’t that a blessing? It sure is, and we have to be thankful to God, for all our friends, who do such a selfless job, in our lives.
– “9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel. 10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.” – Proverbs 27:9-10
Do we have such friends in our lives? Are they a blessing to us? How about us? Are we a blessing to our friends in their lives? Just as we desire a good friend in our lives, we should learn to be a good friend in someone else’s life too. Even so the LORD help us.
"A true friend is someone who thinks you’re a good egg even though they know you’re slightly cracked."
