The LORD God Almighty, our Creator and our Redeemer, calls us to be just like Him.
– “1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.” – Leviticus 19:1-2
– “44 For I am the LORD your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy…45 For I am the LORD who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.” – Leviticus 11:44-45
– “7 Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD your God. 8 And you shall keep My statutes, and perform them: I am the LORD who sanctifies you.” – Leviticus 20:7-8
Satan calls us to be gods unto ourselves, just like himself… sinful, wicked, evil and rebellious.
– “4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4-5
Louis Ginzberg, in his book “The Legends of the Jews, Volumes 1-7” observes that, Jewish rabbis amplified Satan’s temptation of Eve, to give us a more deeper insight into, how the clever Satan tricked and tripped Eve, to fall for his trap, and there by rebel and sin against God.
– “Nothing but malice has prompted God’s command, because as soon as you eat of it, you will be as God. As He creates and destroys worlds, so will you have the power to create and destroy. As He does kill and revive, so will you have the power to kill and revive. God Himself ate first of the fruit of the tree, and then He created the world. Therefore, He forbids you to eat of it, lest you create other worlds… Hurry now and eat the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden, and become independent of God, lest He bring forth still other creatures that will rule over you.” – Louis Ginzberg
God says we should take responsibility for all what we think, speak and do. Satan says, we are answerable to none, since we are gods ourselves.
– “13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;” – 1 Peter 1:13-17
God demands accountability from us. Satan says, because ye are gods, ye are not accountable to any.
– “15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.”
– “16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.”
– “17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.”
– “18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.” – Leviticus 19:15-18
Let us never forget that the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy – John 10:10a; but the LORD God Almighty comes to give us life, life abundantly – John 10;10b. As the children of light, we are called by our Creator and LORD, to be like God, and not be god ourselves. Let us always remember this. May we learn, to faithfully and obediently walk, in all humility, under the grace and mercy of God, as true children of God. Let us never walk in pride, arrogance and rebellion, like Satan, the thief and the destroyer. Even so the LORD help us.
"God is separate from man and from all creation. Yet because humans are made in the image of God, they can follow in His steps and also be holy. In this context, Israel was to be different; separate from the nations and the peoples around them. To be holy means to be more like God, our separation unto Him and His truth – and naturally, separating ourselves from those things that are not like Him and not according to His truth."
