When we look at life, there is one strange paradox that we can observe. Bad people seem to prosper, and the good people seem to suffer – Psalm 73:3-15; Ecclesiastes 7:15; 8:14; Jeremiah 12:1. However, it is good for us to know that, the bad person’s end is terrible, and nothing the bad person does, goes unpunished. Every thought, every word, and every deed, they a bad and evil man ever commits, will be brought into judgement by God. This is for sure, and a certainty.
Let us continue our study of Psalm 112, and see what it can teach us this morning.
– “6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. 7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. 8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.” – Psalm 112:6-8
The above three verses speak an upright man, his sufferings, and the sure help found only in the LORD. The three verses have these following points…
– “Surely he shall not be moved for ever.”
– “The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.”
– “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings”
– “His heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD”
– “His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies”
Alexander Maclaren, commenting upon Psalm 112 and, this age old dilemma, of bad people prospering, and good people suffering, has these words, which reflect with clarity, the reality of life, and the end of all things.
– “He who builds his transient life on and into the Rock of Ages wins rocklike steadfastness…. Lives rooted in God are never uprooted.” – Alexander Maclaren
Solomon, the wise king of old, who had observed life, and all its ups and downs, concludes thus in Ecclesiastes 8:12-13, which should help us, and guide us, through any such similar struggles of ours.
– “12 Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him. 13 But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God.” – Ecclesiastes 8:12-13
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, let us not get discouraged, and lose hope of justice, fairness and equality. God is the righteous Judge, who will, in His time, bring His justice into effect, which is fair, without any question. The upright will be appropriately rewarded, and the unjust will meet his deserved end. Untill then, we have to hold on to the promises of God, and continue to walk steadfastly in the LORD’s ways, faithfully and obediently. Even so, the LORD help us.
"There cannot be evil tidings to the soul which has fixed its trust in the Lord…. If tidings were to come to you today of disease, loss, bereavement, death, they could not be evil if your heart dares to maintain a fixed trust in God; for such trust robs death of its sting, and the grave of its victory. I cannot understand, but I can trust Him."
