As we journey through this life, as Christians, and the disciples of the LORD Jesus, we face many difficult times. Sometimes, the troubles are because of our disobedience. Sometimes our troubles are because of reasons beyond our control. Whatever the reason for our troubles, our Redeemer is calling us to come to Him for help, in times of out need.
– “16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:16
Let us see what this verse speaks to us, and to our situations, as a child of God.
1- COME means…
– COME is an invitation.
– Not just any invitation.
– It is a welcoming invitation.
– It has love, compassion, affection and warmth in it.
– It is an invitation that wants us to come wholeheartedly.
– It is not an invitation, as a mere formality.
– It is not a forced, unavoidable and disinterested invitation.
– Rather, it is an invitation that deeply cares for us, and sincerely desires, that we come, because it is concerned about us and our welfare.
2- BOLDLY means…
– We can come confidently.
– We can come without fear of any sorts.
– This boldness is not because of us.
– It is based upon the trustworthiness of the One who is inviting us to come.
– Our boldness is certainly not because, we have some sort of a right. We are utterly undeserving, to say the least.
3- THRONE means…
– The ultimate seat of power and judgment.
– A seat of power whose foundations are righteousness, justice, equality and fairness.
– A place where justice is meted just and fairly, without any prejudice and discrimination.
– This throne is the very seat of the God Almighty, the God of all creation, the LORD our Redeemer.
4- GRACE means…
– Throne of Grace is no ordinary throne.
– It is where unbiased justice is pronounced, and the same is enforced unopposed.
– Grace indicates that, we are dealt with kindly and generously, when in the first place, we do not deserve anything, except punishment.
– This is the only throne where we can expect love, mercy, grace and compassion for an utterly undeserving criminal – me and you.
Now, why are we waiting still? Let us not misuse this gracious invitation of love, grace and mercy. Rather, let us approach this Throne of Grace, will all boldness, by faith, on the word of the One, who is inviting us.
– “…Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.” – Ephesians 3:11b-12
– “1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” – Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, let us come with honesty and sincerity. Let us come seeking the remedy for the punishment, which we deserve. Let us come seeking our redemption, that is available only in the One, who is seated on this throne. Let us approach the Throne of Grace to honour the One, who is showering upon us, such mercy and grace. Let us honour our LORD, by living for Him, a life worthy of the outpouring of such unmerited love, upon us. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Rejoice that there "is" a throne of grace. What a world would this be if God sat on a throne of "justice" only, and if no mercy were ever to be shown to people! Who is there who would not be overwhelmed with despair? But it is not so. He is on a throne of grace. By day and by night; from year to year; from generation to generation; he is on such a throne. In every land he may be approached, and in as many different languages as people speak, may they plead for mercy. In all times of our trial and temptation we may be assured that he is seated on that throne, and wherever we are, we may approach him with acceptance."
