Man has invented ways, to satisfy and circumvent his guilt pangs, to “steal, kill and destroy” [John 10:10a] from those who are weaker than him, in utter disregard for God’s righteousness, justice, equality and fairness. Many times one wonders, if there is an end to the oppression, of the evil man. One longs for someone, to come rescue the poor, the weak and the oppressed. Sadly, man seems to have no power over the wicked of the world, however good the intentions. We seem to be utterly helpless, against the power of the oppressor.
Thankfully all is not lost. There is hope available in a world, where might is professed and promoted as right. In a world, where might is right, and the paraphernalia of the political, legal, moral and theological framework to support and sustain it, the God of the Bible comes as a, fresh and refreshing breath of air.
– “22 Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Nor oppress the afflicted at the gate; 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, And plunder the soul of those who plunder them.” – Proverbs 22:22-23
Man has deviously invented political, legal, moral and theological framework for colonisation, slavery and discrimination based in race, religion and gender. These means to acquire power and position, still continue even today, in various shapes and forms, with no deviation, in its essence. A leopard cannot change its spots. Sadly, the man’s heart is, just as rigidly fixed, as the spots of the leopard. Read what YAHWEH says to His Chosen People, about being just, fair and righteous in all their dealings.
– “1 “You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice.” – Exodus 23:1-2
The God of the Bible stands for “Justice for All” without any discrimination, or any favouritism, nor any hint of partiality. This is righteousness, justice, equality and fairness at its finest.
– “6 “You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute. 7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. 8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous. 9 “Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 23:6-9
The God of all creation, the LORD God Almighty, our Creator and our Redeemer, declares that we ought to live a life that is patterned after God, and His righteousness. Mere confession of some doctrinal statements doesn’t make us Christians. Such declaration ought to be visible and demonstrably seen, in our thoughts, words and deed.
– “21 “You shall neither mistreat a stranger [foreigner] nor oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. 22 “You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child. 23 If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry; 24 and My wrath will become hot, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.” – Exodus 22:21-24
Oh the heart of God Almighty, it is made plain and clear in His Scriptures. Oh the sinfulness of man’s heart, and his eager desire to pervert, that that which is righteous, into a thing that suits him, and his greedy desire for power and position. A clear indication of man’s sinful, wicked and evil heart, and his rebellious intentions to pursue it passionately, in utter disregard for the Creator, and His righteous law.
– “8 Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, 9 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.’ 11 “But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. 13 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,” says the LORD of hosts. 14 “But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land became desolate after them, so that no one passed through or returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.” – Zechariah 7:8-14
Let us never ever forget that, the God of the Bible does not ignore or overlook sin, wickedness and evil. Everything will be accounted for, big or small. Every man shall be called to give an account…a full account.
– “We must learn of divine justice from the Bible itself. It will not do to protest God’s revealed judgments on the basis of what seems fair or unfair to us. Instead, we must adjust our thinking, including our view of God’s justice, to God’s revealed truth.” – Robert Peterson
Fear O man, the justice of God. It may come slow, but it surely will come. When it comes, it comes with all the force of the Most High and Righteous God. Beware that day. Get things right before the day of wrath. For it is the LORD, who will stand for all who are poor, weak, afflicted and oppressed, against all who think they are strong and mighty; and that, there is no power to stop them, and ask for an account. “23 For the LORD will plead their cause, And plunder the soul of those who plunder them.” – Proverbs 22:23
"In the day that we stand before our Master and Maker, it will not matter how many people on earth knew our name, how many called us great, and how many considered us fools. It will not matter whether schools and hospitals were named after us, whether our estate was large or small, whether our funeral drew ten thousand or no one. It will not matter what the newspapers or history books said or didn’t say. What will matter is one thing and one thing only – what the Master thinks of us."
