If ever one wants to be thankful and grateful to God, there are a million and one reasons. To thank God, many look for what they have personally received from God, in answer to their prayers. Though it is good, I would say it is a poor way of looking at thankfulness and gratefulness towards God. If answered prayers are the measure, then we would find only but tens and hundreds of reasons. If we look at it from all what we have received from God, then we will find an unending, innumerable and infinite number of reasons to thank God.
What are some of the things we receive from God, without we ever asking for them in prayer – our life, sunshine, oxygen, water, air, trees, rain, rivers, health, food, time, talents, opportunities, family, friends, relatives, moon, stars, earth, our solar system, protection, providence, grace, mercy love, forgiveness and His shepherding of us and all that concerns us. This list can go on. This is why the Bible says,
– “1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalm 136:1
The words “…for his mercy endureth for ever.” contains all we need to know as reasons, for being grateful and thankful to the LORD.
Today is Thanksgiving Day, but let not our thankfulness and gratefulness be limited to just one day of the year. For a Christian, who truly knows his God, every day is Thanksgiving Day. We should go a step further and say, every moment of our lives should be spent thanking, praising and worshipping God for His love, kindness, goodness, grace, mercy love, compassion and forgiveness, which we enjoy all the days of our lives.
– “21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:21-23
May we never ever forget to remember all what our LORD had done to us; and continues to do; and will do so even in the days to come. May we be found as people who are forever grateful and thankful to the LORD. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Gratitude is not optional for God’s people; it is a direct command that acknowledges His rightful place as Lord. Throughout Scripture, thanksgiving is the gateway into God’s presence—“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4). Paul echoes this posture when he urges believers to “give thanks in every circumstance” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Whether in abundance or need, recognizing God as the source of every good gift (James 1:17) shapes our worship and aligns our hearts with His purposes."
