Today is 1st January 2026, the first day of a new year. People approach it with different emotions and feelings. Some are excited; some are sad; some are elated; some are terrified.
– “A New Year is a reminder that the future is coming and change is imminent. Uncertainty is a big trigger for those struggling with anxiety…” – Anonymous
Most people are concerned about the New Year because of two things which are like the two sides of a coin – UNCERTAINTY and the CHANGE that is forced upon the person. This situation requires from us, whether we like it or not, adjustments and adapting, with things that are compelled upon us, without our consent. This can be stressful.
– UNCERTAINTY of how the new year will turn out to be, can scare a lot people. No one knows it for sure; and none can predict it accurately.
– CHANGES that happen within us, due to the passage of time – especially age and health related issues, and how they impact every other thing about us, can have a deep impact on a person’s heart and mind.
– “Uncertainty and change are two of the biggest triggers behind the anxiety people experience while making their way into January.” – Devrupa Rakshit
How are we looking at 2026? What thoughts and emotions are running in our heads and hearts? Personally, I am excited, and I am looking forward to another year. This doesn’t mean life is a smooth sail for any of us. Each of us have our own challenges and struggles. There is no escaping from it. Therefore, when something is inevitable, it is prudent to approach it positively than negatively. Positive approach gives us that extra spring in our step, and prepares us to face things much better.
As a Christian, the source of our strength, is not in the “positive thinking” theories, but rather, it is the faith in the character and the ability of the LORD our God, who has promised to stand with us, through anything in life, including 2026, and all it will throw at us. The LORD’s promised presence should be of great comfort to calm any troubled heart, and it should instil courage, in any scared heart. The LORD will enable us to face the uncertain future confidently. When it is the LORD Jesus Christ who holds our lives in His hands, then why worry or be anxious about anything?
– “15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. 16 See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.” – Isaiah 49:15-16
– “1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” – Psalm 121
– “1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” – Psalm 23
The LORD who is the Alpha and the Omega is with us. So, what can anyone or anything do to us? Even if something terribly bad happens to us, the LORD who is with us, will take care of it, and will guide us through it all. Have we not read our Scriptures?
– “31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” – Romans 8:31-32
The One who is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent, is the One who holds the key to everything in 2026. The LORD is Sovereign and He reigns over time, space matter, and everything else. Therefore, what difference does it make whether it is 1st January 2026 or 1st January 2036?
– “11 You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” – Psalm 65:11
I look to the LORD our God for all my needs. What about you my friend? For a Christian, our HOPE should be in the LORD God Almighty. Because of our LORD Jesus Christ, our HOPE is FULL and OVERFLOWING. When we are in such a frame of mind, we THEREFORE, can’t but be HAPPY! Don’t you think so? SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!
"18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. 22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee."
