As a Christian we are called to “BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING” in life. This was our meditation yesterday. This morning let us consider the next lesson in line, “…IN EVERYTHING…” and see what we can learn for our life, even as we enter into this New Year 2026.
– “6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
The words of our LORD, speaking to us through the apostle Paul’s writing to the early Christians at Philippi, are of great comfort to us. These words, which speak about our communion with God, in and through Christ Jesus our LORD, and the great and the inestimable privilege of communication with the Almighty God, helps us see how blessed we are, even though a lot of things in our lives, and the life ahead, may be, uncertain and unknown.
The words “…IN EVERYTHING…” which is part of the larger sentence – “BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING, BUT IN EVERYTHING…” tells us about the wholesome or complete approach to life, and all its situations. We are called and encouraged NOT TO BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING in life, BUT IN EVERYTHING…every situation, every circumstance, and every issue that we may be encountering – we should not be troubled, but learn to trust and depend upon our God.
– “Nothing” to worry about is balanced by “everything” to bring to God. No category is too small or too big. – “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) turns the whole day into conversation with Him. – “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:6) shows trust is comprehensive. – David practiced this: “Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you.” (Psalm 55:22)” – Berean Study Bible Notes
May the LORD help us to know more about Him. As we know more about God our LORD, may we learn to worry about nothing, and trust God more. As we know our Sovereign LORD more, may we bring EVERYTHING to Him, and patiently wait upon Him, to help, guide and lead us.
– “16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Even so, the LORD help us.
"...who was he who here said to the Church at Philippi, ‘Be careful for nothing?’ A prisoner in a Roman prison; and when Rome fixed its claws it did not usually let go without drawing blood. He was expecting his trial, which might, so far as he knew, very probably end in death. Everything in the future was entirely dark and uncertain. It was this man, with all the pressure of personal sorrows weighing upon him, who, in the very crisis of his life, turned to his brethren in Philippi, who had far fewer causes of anxiety than he had, and cheerfully bade them ‘be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make their requests known unto God.'"
