The desire of the LORD is that we, the fallen human beings, who accept the offer of grace available in the LORD Jesus, would be cleansed of our sin, and be restored back to the way we were intended to be, when God Almighty created us. This process of sanctification has become complicated because of our sin and rebellion, and our utter dislike for it. However, sanctification is absolutely necessary, and we cannot avoid it, neither dilute it. We have to go through the full course of it. God the Holy Spirit, who is our “earnest” our Guarantor, will help us in this renewal process, because He is also the Parakletos – One who is sent along side to help us.
Let us look at Psalm 103:1-6 and see what more can we learn this morning.
– “1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The LORD executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.” – Psalm 103:1-6
This morning let us study the words – “WHO CROWNS YOU WITH LOVINGKINDNESS AND TENDER MERCIES” for our meditation. These words speak about the heart of our LORD, in clear and unmistakable terms. LORD chooses to CROWN us with His LOVE, KINDNESS and TENDER MERCIES. It is amazing to see the choice of words used here – CROWN, LOVE, KINDNESS and TENDER MERCIES. If we are not aware of who we are, we almost may think we deserve to be pampered by God, with such love and care.
– “4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” – Psalm 8:4
– “9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor.” – Psalm 62:9
Who are we actually, as natural human beings? We are, truthfully speaking, the agents of Satan and God’s enemies. Despite we being His enemies, God intentionally choose to love and care for us, and rescue us. God does so because of who He is. He loves the world, says the Bible – John 3:16.
– “God’s greatness extends beyond sparing us from sin, disease, or trouble. Through God’s blessing, we are crowned with His great love and mercy.” – David Guzik
Now if sanctification is being transformed into the likeness of the LORD Jesus Christ, then we should be so, in our thoughts, words and deeds. If God loved the unlovable in us, and had cared for us thus; how then should we be loving the others around us? Let us ask ourselves this question with all seriousness.
What kind of love is in our hearts? Does this heavenly love lives in our hearts? Devil too loves a lot of things. His love is evil and wicked. He comes to steal, kill and destroy. How are we going about our life? Do we care for others who may be unlovable with godly LOVE, KINDNESS and TENDER MERCIES? Or are we like Satan in our approach and attitude? Is there any resistance in us, towards such a godly attitude, and way of life? Let us seek the LORD to help us love and live like Him. Just as God live us, let us love others. After all, we are His disciples and ambassadors. Even so the LORD help us.
"...love is proof of our salvation. We demonstrate that we genuinely know God by showing love to others, particularly those who are hard to love (1 John 4:8). Love is the first fruit of the Spirit. When we display love under challenging situations, we reveal that God’s Spirit is truly at work in us (Galatians 5:22). It’s not enough to love those who treat us well; true love as believers is seen in how we treat those who have wronged us or those who seem unworthy of our kindness."
